Mini Indian proplem need input

I have a 70's indian minibike That will not start unless you take off exhaust? So I notice that there are no reed valves in engine is there one inside exhaust ie a one way valve I have sealed crankcase replaced piston and rings honed cylinder I used all original parts Cleaned exhaust pipe it is clear it will almost run backwards with gas introduced into exhaust. So instead of pulling thru intake it seems there is something missing or I am missing something I am not that familiar with 2 strokes? This is for my Granddaughter and she is making me crazy over it> The original problem was my kids ran straight gas in it and then I put in storage for 30 years. Thank you for any help with this Robert

when i look at the indian minibike, ther should be no reed valva by the input an by the output....

when i understand you right, the engine only runs without exhaus ?? so im realy shure there are something in the exhaust... is the silencer clean?
